"Night gathers, and now my watch begins. It shall not end until my death. I shall take no wife, hold no lands, father no children. I shall wear no crowns and win no glory. I shall live and die at my post. I am the sword in the darkness. I am the watcher on the walls. I am the fire that burns against the cold, the light that brings the dawn, the horn that wakes the sleepers, the shield that guards the realms of men. I pledge my life and honor to the Night's Watch, for this night and all the nights to come." - The Night's Watch Oath
This is an extremely belated birthday present for my friend, who loves Game of Thrones. Last year, we exchanged handmade presents for our birthdays, as they are both at roughly the same time (December/January) and we had so much fun, we decided to repeat the gift exchange this year! Unfortunately, neither of us predicted how busy we would be and as a result we didn't end up making them on time - my part is almost 3 months late...
This is also my entry to
's Celebration Contest
! It's a celebration of both my friend's birthday and Game of Thrones, the book and show that we both love
Honestly, if I hadn't been motivated by the contest deadline, I feel like this project would have been left unfinished for at least a few more months... Anyway, last weekend I just sat down in front of the tv and kept stitching until it was finally complete! The metallic thread was quite a pain to work with, but I was pretty determined, and I eventually managed to coax it into behaving.
My friend had requested that I make her a bag, so on Monday I used a sizeable piece of black denim I had left over from another bag I made last year and sewed up this tote bag. Originally, the picture was just going to be sewed onto the bag as a patch, but at the last minute, I decided it would work better as a pocket, which I'm sure will be more convenient. I'm sure she'll love it.
